Subject: Implementation of a Trash and Recycling Bin
The purpose of this memo serves as a recommendation to add a trash bin as well as a recycling bin to the first floor of CUNY City College of New York’s North Academic Center men’s bathroom. This proposition with ultimately lead to a cleaner and more hygienic bathroom.
Summary
The first-floor men’s bathroom at the North Academic Center is undeniably one of the most populated bathrooms on campus. I propose that we add an additional trash and recycling bin to better present this bathroom as a hygienic and sanitary environment. I would like to call to action a meeting so that we could further discuss the situation.
Discussion
Most City College of New York male students have been in and out of the bathroom on the North Academic Center first floor bathroom and will agree with me on the subject that initially, bins need to be added. Even though there are no paper towel dispensers nor paper towels people still find a way to get their hands on some. As well as being the first place most people go to when they step onto the campus, students will leave bottles, plastic bags, wrappers, etc. in the bathroom. Where are students expected to throw their trash out?
The amount of paper that is taken from the toilet stalls is unprecedented, I assume once the cleaning staff comes to clean the bathroom it is all thrown out in the trash. This could be stopped if we just add a recycling bin for paper to ease the amount of paper being wasted daily. As well as a bin under the sink to stop the leakage from under the sink. Water from the damaged pipes spreads all over the floor and creates a safety issue. I expect to see a clean bathroom when I enter the building and unfortunately, I walk in to see trash in the urinals, sinks, toilets, and on the bathroom floor which could come across as distasteful to most students. The presence of a clean bathroom is very important because if not cleaned correctly, the rooms could become moist and that is the condition that is most likely for the development of bacteria and mold to occur.
Trash and recycling bins can benefit students by influencing them to keep the bathroom clean and sanitary for other students having to use the restroom. We could all benefit from trash bins inside the bathroom including the cleaning staff which has to clean the bathroom every day. These bins could make their job easier and more effective at the same time.
